I'm Kara

Here's a few fun facts about me! I grew up on my family's farm outside of Winfield, IA. My husband, Kolton, and I started dating back in 2010, while in high school. I attended Western Illinois University where I earned my Bachelors in Graphic Design with a minor in Photographic Media. While in college I was blessed to have a photographer back home take me under her wing and be her second shooter for weddings (Shoutout to Billi Gerling, Photographic Memories!). This is where I truly learned the most and am forever grateful for that! She still lends me advice when I ask, and actually shot my wedding in 2020!

After college, I moved home and started as a Graphic Designer for a shirt printing business. During this time I started shooting more and more sessions on my own. In 2018, I accepted my current "9-5" career as a Marketing Director for a Bank and love it. This is where I started to become more serious about my side gig and started up my LLC.

And now we are here. I'm still working full-time, taking photos on the weekends! Kolton and I bought his childhood home outside of Morning Sun in 2019 and live there with our little guy, Rhett, and our two dogs, Dixie and Goose. 2023 was a big year for us, as Kolton also finished my brand new studio building on our property, during my maternity leave!
